The first stop in the northern Territory was Katherine and in Katherine we did a “Top Diji” tour. In the Top Diji tour Dad lit a fire with a fire stick and I threw a spear with a woomera and hit the target, a cardboard kangaroo. Throwing the spear was great fun. We also got to paint our own aboriginal paintings. Next we did Katherine Gorge cruise. It was great.
After Katherine we headed to Gunlom campsite in Kakadu. Then we had a slow set up and then we waited very patiently for Rosy, Sajeel, Rohan, Kieran and Tara to arrive. The next day we headed to Maguk which was a 1km walk which led to a beautiful waterfall which splashed down a 15m tall rock into a beautiful dark blue pool where Dad, Rohan and I did some bombs off a 2m high ledge.
After Kakadu we went to Darwin and stayed at Rosy and Sajeel’s house which was cool because Rohan and Kieran had a lot of Lego. The next day we went Go-Karting. Go-Karting is awesome!! My top speed was 46.32km/h. I have never ever, ever done something that exciting. It was exciting because I had never driven a car by myself before that didn’t have pedals, but it did have an accelerator and a brake.
At Mataranka it was SAM’S BIRTHDAY!! Firstly Sam and I got out of bed and had cuddles with mum and dad in their bed. Then we all got out of bed and had Milo Cereal for breakfast and it was delicious. Next Dad, Mum and I went over to the camp kitchen and cooked eggs and bacon on toast while Sam was lying around on Mum and Dad’s bed. After we had breakfast Sam had 4 hours of tablet time and after that we went down to Bitter Spring which was 32 degrees in the water and we had a lovely drift down creek. When we were drifting I spotted a turtle.
After the springs we got ready to go out to dinner and there I watched Sam boot some butts of cane toads and then we had to go home. But luckily that was because we had to watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
After Mataranka we drove 1200km in 2 days into Queensland.
Bye from James.
A great summary of your adventures, James. We would have enjoyed watching your first driving experience….just as well you were not in a 40 kph zone!
Well done James – really interesting as we have been to most of the places you talked about in your blog. I have never driven Go-Carts so fast (Les may have). That must have been so exciting. Did you manage to hit anyone. I did, but not on purpose – probably just because I was a rotten driver. With love from Les and Ros, Ros xx
