James – Shark Bay to Tom Price

In Monkey Mia I got to feed the dolphin called Puck.  I was nervous about feeding Puck but in the end it worked out fine.  P1040388Monkey Mia had nice beaches and when I went fishing with dad I caught a Flathead without any bait and it worked out that I caught more fish without bait than dad did with bait. After  Monkey Mia we went to a town called Carnarvon which has a one mile jetty and when Dad and I were fishing I caught two Mulloway on one hook and we caught 4 other Mulloway and 2 Bream.P1040411

At Carnarvon there was a Space and Technology Museum.  At the museum we got to go on a simulator that showed us how it felt to take off on the Apollo 11 space craft.  They had loads of old technology that they used to communicate with Apollo 11 and the fun thing about that was that you got to touch all of the controls. Sam and I pretended that we were people communicating with Apollo 11 and when we had to go we pretended that our space craft was about to leave earth.DSC_3037
After Carnarvon we went to Coral Bay.  In Coral Bay there was loads of coral and I’m guessing that’s where it got it’s name from.  When we arrived we used our snorkel gear for the first time in months.  The coral was excellent and it was only 5 metres off the shore in parts but that was only at low tide.  Otherwise it was great but you just had to swim further.  We also got to swim with a Manta Ray on our tour.  The type of Manta Ray that we got to swim with was a rare one because it had a black underside.  It was 4m wide.Untitled-1
After Coral Bay we went to Exmouth and Cape Range National Park.  Firstly we went to Exmouth for two nights but that was only because we had to stock up on supplies for our six nights in the National Park.  At Cape Range the coral was great and we got to do lots of walks along the bottoms of gorges and the top of them as well.  My family and I got to see lots of Black Footed Rock Wallabies.  On the top of the gorge we saw a feral mountain goat that didn’t belong there.  DSC_3134The snorkelling that we did was really good, in fact it was so good that I would like to come back when I am older.  When we were snorkelling I saw half a meter long spangled emperors. The camp hosts at our campsite liked me talking to them.

When we left Cape Range National Park we went back to Exmouth to resupply food and water. After leaving Exmouth we went to a rest stop area 3/4 of the way to a small mining town called Tom Price.  The only exciting thing that we did that night was have a campfire.  Next we went to Tom Price.

At Tom Price we went on a mining tour. On the tour the tour guide Baz drove as around Rio Tinto mine site. Rio Tinto mine only mined for iron. The haul trucks were huge.DSC_3526

One of the funny things Baz told us was that the hose that they used to wash the haul trucks was so powerful that if you decided to wash your caravan no matter how strong it is you will only be left with your A-frame.
